In this six-week watercolour course you'll learn the basics, where you'll learn about colour, tone, washes, layering, lifting, composition, and focus on keeping it loose, fresh and playful. You'll be building your confidence so you can continue with your watercolour journey after the course.
The six-week course will start on Thursday 2nd May and will run for six weeks, with the exception of May school holidays. The dates are as follows: 2nd May, 9th May, 16th May, 23rd May, 6th June, 13th June
Week one: Colour Mixing – Using a limited palette of 3 colours, we'll focus on colour grid exercises and getting comfortable with watercolour.
Week two: Tone – Tonal exercises and gradated washes. Building a graduated image by layering tones of one colour.
Week three: Dry Brush/Variegated Wash – Creating an image of dry brushed trees and grasses using found/foraged sticks, twigs, feathers, stones, and shells.
Week four: Lifting, Scraping Back, and Washing Out – Creating an image of a stormy seascape.
Week five: Simple Landscape – Bringing together all the processes learned to paint a simple landscape.
Week six: Free Play – Bringing together all techniques, methods, and materials, students will work from a nature photograph they have taken. The focus will be on keeping it loose, fresh, and letting the watercolour do the work.
Materials list: Sketchbook (minimum size A5) and/or loose pages of watercolour paperWatercolour brushesWatercolours: Suggested colour palettes - ("Neutral" - Van Dyke Brown, French Grey, Indigo) ("Haven" - Rust, Blush, Indigo) - These can be brought in mini tins containing the colours, a mini paintbrush, pencil and rubber from Joan Of Art (don't leave this last minute as shipping takes a few weeks) - or you can find similar colours from Windsor & Newton / SAA Art on Amazon or Jacksons Art own range of tubed watercolours.
